As Halloween approaches and clocks prepare to fall back an hour, the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding drivers and pedestrians to stay alert and watch out for one another. TxDOT says nearly 700 pedestrians were killed and more than 1,300 seriously injured in Texas traffic crashes in 2025, with most of those incidents happening at night. As part of its “Be Safe, Drive Smart” campaign, volunteers will walk through downtown San Angelo with billboard-style safety messages designed to grab attention and promote pedestrian visibility. TxDOT officials say shorter daylight hours and increased Halloween activity make safety especially important. Drivers are being urged to slow down, avoid distractions, and watch carefully for people on foot. Pedestrians are also encouraged to remain visible and use extra caution around traffic.
