After more than 40 years in one location, the Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Department has opened a second station to improve response times and expand coverage. The new facility, located on Old Ballinger Highway, was funded with about $480,000 in grants, donations, and community support. Fire officials say the added station will allow volunteers to spread equipment across the service area and protect more vehicles and apparatus from weather damage. The department has 25 volunteers who respond to calls across the Concho Valley and say the expansion demonstrates their commitment to rural residents who rely on them for emergency response.
