The San Angelo Fire Marshal is reminding residents to take precautions when using space heaters. San Angelo’s Fire Marshal Billy Clemons said homeowners should make sure their space heaters are equipped with safety features that can prevent fires and accidents. Clemons advised keeping space heaters away from combustible materials such as drapes, bedding, cardboard or furniture. He also recommended placing them on a flat surface in a “kid-free zone” to prevent children or pets from knocking them over. Clemons also said that this is also a good time for residents to check the batteries in their home smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly.
