The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is proud to announce the addition of its Aircraft Operations Division (AOD) to the San Angelo area. This expansion marks a significant step in enhancing public safety and operational capabilities across a broad region stretching from Del Rio to Lubbock. Currently, the San Angelo unit operates both a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, providing vital air support across this large geographic area. AOD plays a crucial role in statewide air patrols, criminal surveillance, and search and rescue missions. AOD strengthens public safety and support the efforts of all DPS divisions, as well as local, county, state, and federal agencies. Leveraging advanced technology, air patrol units assist in the apprehension of fugitives, suspect location, deterrence of criminal activity, and reinforcement of border security. Additionally, the division enhances search and rescue operations by partnering with local, state, and federal first responders to locate and recover individuals during disaster-related incidents.
