A Texas man who shot and killed a Black Lives Matter protester is now free. Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed the pardon proclamation on Thursday for Daniel Perry, who was released from prison within the hour. A jury convicted Perry last year for the shooting death of 28-year-old Garrett Foster during a 2020 protest in Austin. Foster was armed with an assault rifle as he walked through the streets of downtown Austin when Perry drove into the crowd by mistake. A jury sentenced him to prison for 25 years, angering Governor Abbott who asked the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to intervene.
