The National Weather Service said that winter rainfall across the Concho Valley helped to improve drought conditions in the area. NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Mike Castillo said that all of the green we can now see in the area as a result of those winter rains can turn into fire fuel as conditions dry out and strong winds return. In the panhandle, dryer conditions combined with high winds created the largest wildfire in Texas history, covering more than 1.25 million acres.
