Organizers of the local NAACP Buffalo Soldier Memorial have
published the schedule of activities for the Grand Opening
weekend of July 28th through the 30th. The newly constructed
memorial is located along South Oakes Street across from
Historic Fort Concho. The ceremony activities will begin at 9 a.m. on
Friday, the 28th, then a full weekend of planned activities, including
dining opportunities, visits to tourist attractions, canoe rides, a film
festival, and other festivities. The events will end on Sunday the 30th,
with two tours of the memorial and a memorial service. The full
