They say defense wins championships and Angelo State’s defense carried the Rams to a 33-7 win over Bemidji State in the NCAA Division 2 playoffs. The Rams advance to the national quarterfinals and Angelo State will host Colorado School of Mines this Saturday afternoon. Going back to this past weekend, the Rams only led 13-7 going into the fourth quarter, but ASU outscored Bemidji 20-0 in the final quarter. The Rams defense intercepted Brandon Alt, one of the top QBs in the nation, five times including one interception returned for a touchdown. The Rams dominated the game and nearly 300 more yards than Bemidji State and it’s the first time in program history that ASU has won a playoff game in back to back seasons.
