New Screwworm Case in Crockett County Triggers Quarantine Across Three Counties

A new case of New World screwworm has been confirmed in Crockett County, bringing the total number of U.S. detections this year to 15. Federal officials say the parasite was found in a sheep on June 20, prompting the Texas Animal Health Commission to establish a quarantine zone covering parts of Crockett, Sutton, and Schleicher counties. Restrictions are now in place on the movement of livestock and other warm-blooded animals leaving the area. Two additional cases were confirmed in cattle in Edwards County over the weekend. The Crockett County detection is the third reported in the Concho Valley this year. State and federal officials continue urging ranchers to monitor animals closely and report suspected cases immediately.
