A bill authorizing about eight-point-five billion dollars in funding for Texas public schools is awaiting Governor Greg Abbott’s signature. In 2023, Abbott and the Legislature withheld billions from public schools after the failure of his attempt to create a voucher program for private schools. This year, lawmakers approved both vouchers and the increase in public school funding.
