A San Angelo resident’s vehicle was stolen Monday afternoon after being left running, leading to a police pursuit and a foot chase that was ultimately called off due to incoming severe weather. San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a 911 call around 2:49 p.m. Monday regarding a vehicle theft in the 900 block of Shiloh Drive. The victim told dispatchers they had jump-started their vehicle and left it running while stepping back inside their home for a short time. They then heard a car door close and saw their vehicle being driven away. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect fled, initiating a vehicle pursuit. The chase exited Houston Harte and continued down Arden Road, outside of San Angelo city limits. The suspect abandoned the vehicle at Arden Road Ranch and fled on foot into a nearby field. The San Angelo Police Department, assisted by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter unit, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas State Park Police, began a search. The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner.
