Texas Representative Dustin Burrows Elected Speaker Of The House

Texas Representative Dustin Burrows has been elected speaker of the House, thanks to a bipartisan coalition of state lawmakers.  The election is a blow to the state’s republican leadership, which backed his opponent.  Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has spent weeks blasting Burrows, claiming that he’s been cozying up to democrats.  But the final vote was not close.  Burrows beat Representative David Cook by 30-votes.
