The San Angelo Area Foundation has announced that it will be breaking ground for a new Word War II memorial on Thursday, June 6.
According to the foundation, the groundbreaking ceremony will start at 10 a.m. on Rio Concho Drive, across from the McNease Convention Center. The event’s date also coincides with the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the day when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, to battle Nazi forces.
A foundation representative stated that the memorial will feature a 6-foot-tall bronze statue of a World War II airman and the names of World War II veterans from San Angelo and the surrounding area.
