Rumors are circulating about the future possible closure of the Central
High School on Oakes Street. After reaching out to SAISD officials, they
released a statement to Foster Communications News. They say, “San
Angelo ISD is constantly looking for ways to be more efficient as a
system and continues to closely evaluate all of our facilities, including
Central High on Oakes to determine if the facilities best prepare our
students to be future-ready graduates and support our third district
goal of providing innovative learning spaces. There have been no formal
conversations with outside organizations or businesses regarding Central
on Oakes. San Angelo ISD anticipates future discussions regarding the
structure of our secondary schools to determine if a single-grade-level
campus configuration meets the academic needs of our students”.
A related rumor says that Shannon is intending to purchase the Oakes
Street school property, but Shannon officials told us the rumor was
circulating, but did not confirm or deny their intention.
